Medior/Senior Java Developer

Role & Context

As a Java Developer, you will contribute to large-scale legacy migration and version upgrade projects. Together with a small, experienced team, you will help ensure that existing applications are technically ready for the future.

More specifically, you will migrate older Java 8/J2EE codebases to Java 21 and Jakarta EE 10. Depending on the project, this may also include a migration to Quarkus 3.

You will work hands-on with the code: carrying out the actual migrations, using tooling to accelerate the process, and stepping in manually where automation is not sufficient.

What will you do?

• Migrate existing J2EE code to Jakarta EE 10, including namespaces, dependencies, and configuration.

• Migrate components to Quarkus 3 where relevant.

• Use migration tooling such as OpenRewrite and IntelliJ Migration Assistant, with manual remediation where required.

• Update configuration files such as web.xml, application.xml, and weblogic.xml to support the new versions.

• Analyse and resolve technical issues that arise during the migration.

• Collaborate with testers and business stakeholders throughout the different testing and validation iterations.

Your Technical Toolkit

Alongside the right mindset, we are of course looking for the necessary technical expertise.

Must-have

• Solid experience with Java, preferably including older Java EE/J2EE codebases.

• Knowledge of EJB, JMS, and JTA/XA.

• Experience with Maven.

• Interest in and willingness to further develop your expertise in Jakarta EE 10 and Quarkus 3.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with OpenRewrite or similar migration tooling.

• Knowledge of Oracle and/or PL/SQL.

• Experience with Vaadin or Struts2.
