Freelance Senior Functional Analyst

For a client, we are looking for a Senior Functional Analyst – Life Insurance (Technology).

Within the Life domain, you will play a key role in growing our Pension & Investment reserves while maintaining strong profitability, operational resilience and compliance with evolving legislation. In this position, you will initiate, coordinate and deliver strategic, cross-functional projects aligned with the technology strategy for life insurance and broader portfolio planning.

Job in a Nutshell

As a Functional Analyst (FA), you will drive the further development of our front-end application landscape, a key strategic focus for this client from 2027 onward. You will map end-to-end processes, gather and translate business requirements, and bridge the gap between business analysts and development teams to deliver seamless, user-centric solutions, particularly in the context of Employee Benefits and insurance-related workflows.

Profile

Experience

• Proven track record as a Functional Analyst, preferably in an Agile/Scrum environment

• Experience with front-end applications (a plus)

• Knowledge of insurance processes or Employee Benefits (a strong asset): this expertise will enable you to add immediate value in navigating the complexities of Employee Benefits workflows

• Familiarity with process modeling (e.g. UML, BPMN) and requirements management

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge business requirements constructively

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (mandatory)

• Experience with test planning and execution

• Ability to lead workshops and facilitate discussions between technical and non-technical stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

Process Mapping, Requirements Gathering & High-Quality Analyses

• Analyze and document end-to-end business processes, with a focus on Employee Benefits and insurance-related workflows

• Translate business needs into functional specifications and user stories, ensuring alignment with IT capabilities

• Deliver high-quality, detailed functional analyses to the various development teams, and follow up daily with your assigned developers to track progress and ensure correct implementation

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Build strong relationships with business analysts, developers and other IT teams to ensure smooth execution

• Challenge business assumptions and propose optimal solutions that balance functionality, usability and technical feasibility

Documentation & Testing

• Create and maintain clear, structured documentation (e.g. functional designs, process flows)

• Develop and execute test plans to validate solutions

Solution Design & Architecture

• Work closely with the solution architect to ensure designs align with the clients architectural vision

• Propose scalable, future-proof solutions that support long-term growth, particularly in the Employee Benefits domain

Workshop Leadership & Communication

• Lead workshops to gather requirements, validate designs and align stakeholders

• Communicate transparently and proactively with all parties, ensuring clarity on progress, risks and dependencies
